Busy festive season for Roodepoort SPCA

Has your four-legged friend gone missing?

The kennels at the Roodepoort SPCA were jam-packed with animals brought in during December.

This number only grew as the 31st, a day for fireworks, causing numerous animals to seriously injure themselves as they try to escape the fireworks. On the night, the SPCA rescued eight dogs from various areas around Roodepoort.

“Fireworks should be banned as its not a South African tradition. Every year it’s the same situation and we have to put a stop to it. They are a wast of time and animals and children get injured in the process,” said the SPCA’s manager Mandy Cattanach.

128 stray dogs were brought in and 142 dogs were donated to the SPCA while there were 93 stray cats brought in and 85 cats were donated.
