HONEYDEW – Here are some the stories that made headlines this year.

A spate of criminal incidents – specifically armed robberies, murders as well as hijackings were some of the frightening incidents this year.

Roodepoort Northsider reported on various shocking, violent crimes during the course of the year.

Below is the roundup of some of those incidents that made headlines in 2015.

Fourth person apprehended in brutal Muldersdrift murder

Muldersdrift Police arrested the fourth suspect linked to a murder incident that occurred on 11 January, where a 61-year-old man was killed during a burglary and robbery.The man was arrested in Rosebank on 28 January after detectives received a tip off.

Breaking News: Husband shoots wife in front of three-year-old daughter 

It was shocking and alarming that the three-year-old child witnessed her parents lying in a pool of blood on the night of 3 February in Weltevreden Park.

UPDATE: Police investigate Weltevreden Park murder-suicide

On 5 February police launched an investigation into an incident that was described as the murder-suicide. The Honeydew Police opened an inquest following the death of a couple.

Breaking News: Four arrested in Wesbank 

It was on 17 February when Fairland Police arrested four suspects who were involved in an armed robbery at an MTN store at the Wesbank head office in Fairland.

Body found floating in a river 

On 3 March the Muldersdrift Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya confirmed that two suspects were arrested in connection with a body that was found floating in the Crocodile River in Rietvlei, Muldersdrift.

Police investigate burned dead body mystery 

In Florida on 5 March police revealed the identity of the man who was found dead and burned beyond recognition with his hands tied in the boot of the vehicle.

BREAKING NEWS: Burned body found in Zandspruit 

In Zandspruit Informal Settlement, on 17 March a burned body was found with residents claiming that the legs of the deceased were tied.

Man found dead in garage 

On 17 April Honeydew Police confirmed that they were investigating an incident of housebreaking, robbery and murder following the death of a man on 15 April in Weltevreden Park. A man was found dead in a garage after robbery incident.

Blinded by bullet

Wilhemina Makgoba of Zandspruit fell victim to a crime of street robbery on 9 April.

According to her partner, David Phasha, she was shot while on her way from Zandspruit to Cosmo City with a friend.

The two women were then ambushed by two armed robbers who took their cellphones and shot Makgoba in the cheek before they fled the scene.

WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES: 75-year-old woman brutally assaulted during robbery 

On June 5 an elderly woman (75) was kicked in the face during a housebreaking and robbery in Weltevreden Park. She was robbed and brutally assaulted at her home at 1pm.

WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES – GALLERY: Two die during shootout at Clearwater Mall 

Two suspects were shot dead in a shootout between six robbers and police at Clearwater Mall, Struben’s Valley, on 1 September. Two other suspects were arrested unharmed while another two who were severely injured, were taken to hospital. No police or innocent bystanders were harmed.

The suspects were allegedly ambushed by the police. This after it was established that they wanted to rob people who were delivering a cargo of cell phones to Clearwater Mall.
