The man who assaulted a 12-year-old schoolgirl on the premises of Laerskool Dr Havinga in March this year, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison yesterday.

The man and his accomplice entered the school grounds pretending to be parents looking for a missing schoolbag. One of the men approached the victim and for reasons unknown started strangling her. She started screaming and managed to get away. The incident was caught on the security cameras and the man was arrested on 22 April.

School principal Leon Visser told the Record he is pleased that justice have been served.
