Let’s work towards tangible freedom

Ward 71 councillor Gert Niemand lays out his hopes for the new year.

We can turn 2016 into a year of tangible freedom, Ward 71 councillor Gert Niemand said about his plans for the new year.

He wished residents a prosperous festive season and new year in a letter to the Record.

“Should you be going away during the festive season, please drive safely,” he urged.

In terms of council, Niemand said the past year has been challenging, service delivery failures across the city being testimony thereto. He said he’s done his utmost in dealing with reported problems and feels fortunate the majority has been resolved.

“As a councillor, my tasks are not always easy; we have a council that suffers poor management, us DA councillors get ignored in many regards but I feel we are successful in fighting for residents’ causes despite it all.

“I’m excited for the new year and what it will hold; in 2016 citizens will again have the opportunity to elect suitable representatives and city management — I urge each and every resident old enough to vote to participate in the coming elections.”

Niemand is willing to help those who have not yet been registered on two registrations weekends next year, on 6 and 7 February and again on 5 and 6 March. He will be on leave from 16 December til 3 January. In his absense residents can contact Ward 82 councillor Susan Stewart on 071 253 3326 or via email at susan.stewart@telkomsa.net with municipal emergencies.

“We all stand challenged to make 2016 a successful year and with the help of residents, I’ll work to have the city better deliver their services.

“Let’s all work towards freedom that we can use.”

Gert Niemand serves Ward 71 as councillor, which comprises of Princess AH, Lindahven, Reefhaven, Witpoortjie, Grobler Park, Davidsonville and Wilfordon. He can be reached on 078 743 9681 or via email at ticket@polka.co.za until 16 December.
