Police issues house robbery warning

Elderly are soft targets.

Roodepoort Police has issued a serious warning to the public after noticing a visible spike in house burglary.

According to spokesperson Nonhlanhla Kumhalo the criminals are targeting senior citizens because they are soft targets.

“We advise them not to live alone where possible and if they do they must not leave security gates open or doors unlocked. There were a lot of cases where victims were caught sleeping during the day with the premises’ doors unlocked,” said Kumhalo.

“Domestic workers are also soft targets as they mostly are alone at home. They must be extra careful when they are going out or coming home especially if they see suspicious persons or vehicles.

“Since it is festive season, a time when criminals are very active, we urge the community to be extra careful,” she concluded.
