Two K9 unit members arrested for attempted murder

Various other charges added.

The independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) yesterday arrested two police sergeants of the Roodepoort K9-unit for attempting to murder a 33-year-old Nigerian man.

It is alleged that on 2 January the two sergeants stopped a Nigerian man who was in a possession of R10 000. It is also alleged that the Nigerian man resisted the arrest and managed to flee from the police.

The two sergeants then shot and wounded the man while running away and stole R7 100 of the money.

The complainant further alleges that the policemen went to his house and damaged his property and threatened to kill him.

A case for attempted murder, assault GBH, theft, malicious injury to property (MIPT) and defeating the ends of Justice was opened at Krugersdorp SAPS and investigated by IPID.

The two policemen aged 41 and 38 were arrested and they will appear at Krugersdorp Magistrate Court tomorrow.
