Domestic worker gets full bursary

She took the job as a domestic worker to complete her studies.

For Dorah Mabusa, a single parent from Kagiso, working as a domestic worker did not hinder her from studying toward a qualification in Business Management.

In fact, it is one of the reasons she continued to study after dropping out of the University of South Africa (Unisa) a few years ago due to financial strain..

Dorah then took a job as a domestic worker so that she could pay for her tuition fees. After talking to her boss, Brian Anderson about her goals and dreams of working in the business industry, it did not take him long to help her financially for this year.

While studying toward a Diploma in Business Management, the 42-year-old has learned to tackle working full time as a domestic worker, seeing to her two children aged 6 and 21 and studying toward her exams.

“There were many times I was tired, but I still made an effort to study. Sometimes I would be so drained when I come from work that I’d take a nap and then wake up in the middle of the night to study,” Dorah said.

Brian also approached Hot91.9 FM to ask for help and they were more than willing to award her with a bursary of R12 000 to complete her final studies next year.

This was also part of the radio station’s initiative which runs throughout the year.

“I was so excited and happy. The feeling was just amazing when I heard I received the bursary,” Dorah told the Record.

“All I want is for Dorah to gain experience in the business industry so if anyone who can help her with an internship, it would be gladly appreciated,” Brian said.

He added she is a diligent person and has a good heart.

Anyone who would like to help Dorah with a job in Business, can contact her on 084 863 0246.
