Discovery honour their pupils

Shay Weimers was named best all rounder.

It was an honours evening by candlelight at Discovery Primary Full Service School as they held their annual honours evening event.

This was to award the most outstanding pupils of the year from grade five to seven.

Not even a power disruption in Discovery which affected the school could stop the event from moving forward.

In the grade seven special awards, pupils Daniel Mbumba and Calsey Alexander were awarded the Beyers Naude and Principal’s Trophies respectively.

Mbumba also received the outstanding leadership award while Alexander was named scholar of the year in Life Orientation, Social Science Geography and English.

Camryn Wilson who was named most dedicated prefect, was awarded scholar of the year in Arts and Culture, and shared the Economic Management Science Scholar of the year with Mpho Mogolobe.

She also shared the mathematics scholar of the year award with Saeed van Greunig.

Mogolobe receive numerous awards on the night and was named Scholar of the Year in Social Science History, Natural Science and English Creative Writing.

Musabihah Dolley was named Scholar of the Year in technology and Afrikaans.

Elijah Bord was given the Lendrum Trophy for Loyalty to the school while Beyonce Minnaar was given the Ross trophy for Outstanding Personal Development.

In sports awards, Amohelang Mafohla was named upcoming soccer player while player of the year went to Ryan Manning.

In netball, Karabo Morobane was named Player of the Year. Ryan Lee and Kirsten Banks were named boy’s and girl’s Swimmers of the Year.

In chess, Mpho Mogolobe and Matthew Pimentel were named Players of the Year.

In table tennis, Jiyaad Greef and Kassidy Sanders were named boys and girls Players of the Year while Amohelang Mafohla and Dawne Williams were named Cross Country boys and girls Players of the Year.

In athletics, Muzi Makhudu and Mukovhe Neswiswi were named boys and girls Athletes of the Year.

Neswiswi was also named Sports Girl of the Year while Manning was named Sports Boy of the Year.
