FEATHERBROOKE – Residents fill shoe boxes for underprivileged children in the community.

Featherbrooke Estate residents raised R39 000 during a fundraiser breakfast for the Santa Shoebox Project.

A perfect spring morning with a treat of a market put together by The Pop-Up Market was held at the Featherbrooke Estate Clubhouse, for the purpose of raising funds for the Santa Shoebox Project which provides underprivileged children with a lovingly boxed gift at Christmas time. The decorated box comprises of certain products that are recommended by the organisation.

Dulce Café provided a delicious spread for breakfast while actor and singer Matt Stern entertained the residents with a collection of awe-inspiring songs as his contribution to the charity drive.

After the 30 beautiful stalls were enjoyed in a leisurely, up-market shopping experience, Stern doubled up as an outstanding auctioneer fetching incredibly generous bids on contributions that were sponsored for the purpose of fund raising.

Shona Jonsson, public relations director at Featherbrooke Estate, Michele Engelmann regional coordinator for Santa Shoebox Project and Michell Rabie, regional sub-coordinator and volunteer for the Santa Shoebox Project, arranged the morning in an effort to make being part of this project seamless for the Featherbrooke residents.

Instead of each resident offering a packed and decorated box, the money raised from each resident’s contribution allowed Rabie to buy good quality contents for 130 boxes.

Featherbrooke residents then decorated these boxes, and Rabie was involved in the distribution of the Santa Shoeboxes to various facilities in the area.
