Update: Video proof of cops forcing man to strip in public

Victim claims it's second time cop makes him strip.

The victim of a police officer who made him drop his trousers and underwear, exposing his genitals, has supplied the Record with video footage of the event.

The victim, who is known to the Record but is afraid of being victimised, said on Friday 20 November at around 10.50am two police officers approached him where he usually sells sweets behind the train station. They accused him of being in possession of drugs and the one officer, whose first name also is known to the Record ordered him to take off his trousers and underwear in view of at least 10 witnesses. The victim alleged the policeman has a history of violence so he obliged. Regardless of the policemen finding no drugs on or close to him, they handcuffed him and took him to Roodepoort Police Station with the witnesses in tow. Due to his being innocent of any crime, police had to let him go.

According to the victim it was the second time the same officer had made him strip when he searched him, and also the second time he had been arrested falsely. The witnesses also told the Record it seemed the officer in question is victimising them since he regularly comes and searches just them and their property. They have spoken highly of the police in general but accused the police officer of having a racist agenda and that he always “looks high”. They said the police officer even once called in the K9 Unit but could not find anything incriminating either.

The victim and his witnesses have gone to Roodepoort Police Station and have spoken to Station Commander Brigadier Khupiso, who in turn asked them to send the footage to a male colonel to view. Unfortunately due to technical problems he could not open the video on his phone and they now have been asked to send it to Colonel André Laing. Khupiso told the Record that as soon as she gets feedback from Laing she will investigate the incident and ensured the public the matter will not be swept under the carpet.
