Sterretjies graduate to big school

They're ready for big school and their careers, Sterretjies let parents know at the graduation ceremony.

No one shone brighter than the Sterretjie Kleuterskool children as they graduated from crêche last week Saturday (21 November).

Laerskool Roodebeeck’s hall was made up beautifully for the auspicious occasion. Silver, gold, black and white decorated the elegant tables and an early dinner was awaiting the parents. They couldn’t wait to take their seats and grab their cell phones and cameras to take photos and videos of the little ones.

Before the actual graduation ceremony, the Sterretjie Drummies performed for them. Galaletsang Molale, 6, led the pack in singing and counted a loud “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8” throughout the performance so her classmates could keep up. They performed a medley of Abba songs, fitting the evening’s theme. Thereafter Embré Ludick, 6, wowed the audience with his amazing tap dancing skills, a real little Lord of the Dance himself.

Finally the big moment arrived and teacher Zurika Maritz walked out in her gown to hand over her class’ certificates. Kamogelo Cetswayo, 6, was first to receive his certificate. In true Sterretjie style, the children’s career goals were read out as they walked out on stage. Kamogelo Cetswayo wrote, “I want to be a police and shoot all the naughty people [sic].”

Everyone had a good laugh at the children’s antics on stage and enjoyed the good company of other parents and teachers. Next year, Sterretjie will celebrate its 40th year in child care.
