GALLERY: Carol Service at Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge

RANDPARK RIDGE – Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge pupil's choir lead their school's carol service.

Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge High School held its seventh annual carol service led by the Trinity Singers on 27 November.

The choir conductor who is also the school deputy principal Riaan Vorster said, “I trust that God will reveal Himself to each member of the congregation through the music and the readings.”

The service was designed to be a meditation on the birth of Jesus Christ.

Bible verses were quoted, the word of God was preached and songs were sung.

It was attended by residents, teachers, pupils and parents.

Vorster said the form of their carol service is based on a tradition that has been developed by churches and academic institutions for over a century.

Choral music has always been part of Vorster’s life and he established the choir, Trinity Singers.

At an early age, Vorster was accepted to join the internationally acclaimed Drakensberg Boys’ Choir.

During his time with the boy’s choir, he was selected to accompany the choir on two international tours, the highlights of which included performances at the United Nations in New York with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on their programme called Music and the Spoken Word in Salt Lake City and at the Cairo Opera House.

In his final year at the school he had the unique honour of conducting the choir from the piano in concert and was co-recipient of the school’s prize for its best composer.

As an adult, Vorster has been a member of several professional choirs including Chanticleer, in Verse, and the Symphony Choir of Johannesburg. He worked closely with music directors including Simon Preston, John Rotte, Noël Tredinnick and Eric Ericson.

Vorster has also performed as a baritone soloist with the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra.

As a conductor, he has established two choirs including the Trinity Singers and has directed them in a variety of concerts, competitions and live radio broadcasts.
