Update: Cops seen pulling off BMW similar to one in hijacking

A family member of murdered 21-year-old Robert Vermaak claims she has seen police pulling over a BMW that fits the description of the one used in the crime.

According to the woman who was in Florida from the Free State to attend Vermaak’s funeral, they were driving along Goldman Street last Wednesday when they saw a police vehicle and the BMW next to the road. The police allegedly arrested three of the occupants and locked them into the back of the van. One of the police officers though got into the driver seat, closed the door and chatted to a fourth occupant in the passenger seat.

When the woman and her companion stopped to ask the police who the men were and why they have been pulled over the police gave a vague explanation saying it was “on suspicion”. The couple took photos of the incident.

Vermaak was murdered two Fridays ago during what is suspected was an attempted hijacking.

Meanwhile it is believed the same type and colour BMW was used in three separate armed robberies in the Linden-Northcliff area during 2014.

The Record has passed the photos on to Florida Police for clarification and is awaiting comment.
