Update: Outraged public mourning hijack victim

Community pour out their hearts on social media.

The community struggled to contain their sadness and anger on social media over the senseless murder of Robert Vermaak (21) this past Friday.

Robert was shot dead during what is believed to have been an attempted hijacking. The suspects got away with only two empty wallets and a tablet.

Pastor Hugo Fourie of the LFCC Super Kids Children’s Ministry, where Robert served, wrote on Facebook:
“Today I am writing this post with a broken heart. During Friday evening we lost one of the most awesome young men I had the privilege to know from a young age. A leader at Super Kids and a cell leader in our district.

Always willing to serve, loved by everyone and in his own way made an impact on those he met A real warrior for Christ!

To quote his sisters post: “Not all heroes wear capes, some do heart warming Sunday school lessons and awesome puppet shows I love you so much my big brother. Missing you.”

We will truly miss you Robert.”

Quintin Bekker wrote “Legend comes from the heart. One day we will see him again” and Gail Fannin wrote ” so sad his life was stolen”.

Other members of the community expressed their anger. Brad Moseby wrote ” It is because of violent crime such as this there should be a death penalty!!!!” while Barbara Ann du Plessis said “so wish that these cold blooded murderers are caught and brought to justice! Bring back the death penalty”.
