Karien and her friend Anathi Shushu, 16, ran away from Welman’s home in Florida CBD between 9pm on Wednesday night and 9am the following morning. According to Tina they were then spotted in Roodepoort CBD near Goldwagen, where they split up. Karien went to Newlands while it is believed Anathi headed for Snakepark, Dobsonville, Soweto. Both ran away in search of other family members.

After the Record published an article about their disappearance, Welman in addition to the case opened at Florida Police Station went to open another at Sophiatown Police Station, where she says officers immediately got on board to help look for the duo.

One of the officers phoned her with the happy news after finding her in Newlands.

Karien is now safely home but they’re still looking for Anathi. Anyone who has any information can contact Welman on 082 898 6621 or the Florida Police on 011 831 7000.
