Police to continue with operations during festive season

HONEYDEW – The next Honeydew Sector 2 next meeting will be held on 28 January 2016.

Honeydew police warned residents to refrain from dumping items in their dustbins that attract vagrants.

Sector 2 Manager Sergeant Nicholas Makhura told residents at the CPF meeting held at Honeydew SAPS board room on 27 November that police had been endeavouring to solve the challenge of vagrants since the beginning of the year.

Jon Rosenberg, Benson Marufengu from Beagle Watch, Sector vice chaiperson Neville Burnett, and security guard, Jabulani Dube attend the meeting.

“Residents are dumping cellphones and laptop chargers among other things and that needs to stop,” he said.

According to Sergt Makhura, the level of crime incidents in the sector decreased – compared to the month of October.

He said only five crime incidents of common assault were reported with four of them being domestic-violence related.

However, burglary at residential premises was still a challenge in Sector 2 which includes suburbs such as Randpark Ridge, Weltevreden Park, Allen’s Nek, Constantia Kloof, Constantia Park, Hillfox and Panorama AH.

He further explained that theft out of motor vehicle was down but with 11 incidents reported in November.

Deputy Sector manager Constable Danie Soldaat explained that police would continue with their special operations during the festive season in Weltevreden Park. “Foot patrol operation will continue. We will arrange with committees in that area to join us,” he said.

Sector deputy chairperson Neville Burnett, who was also chairing the meeting, commended the police for increasing the visibility in the sector.

“The rate of crime in our suburbs had dropped since police increased visibility,” said Burnett.
