Film project shoots in Florida

Camera ready..action.

Florida based MRC Productions have started shooting their first film project. Working together with Media Africa Studios, the shoot will take place in different areas around Florida for the next two weeks.

The production will feature actors such as Skeem Saam’s Elizabeth Mlengana, Isibiya’s Siyabulela Deli and Generations the legacy’s Hlengiwe Xaba.

The project is the brainchild of Tshepo Chotelo who started MRC Productions in 2012 after he received a vision of the script.

“Unfortunately due to lack of money, the operation was put on hold from 2012 to 2014. We approached various broadcast stations to assist in producing the project. Media Africa Studios indicated their interest,” said Chotelo.

Chotelo has helped train production marshals through his volunteer project and some have gone onto become production assistants.

More than 300 local residents signed up for the auditions held in Florida.

“Through the volunteer programme, Phumzile Nyandeni is now a locations manager while Simphiwe Makukule is a productions assistant. They are proof that through art we are impacting people’s lives in a positive way,” said Chotelo.

With Casting Director Beki Khumalo and Stephen de Villiers at the helm, Open Wounds is a film about a young boy who lost his parents at 12-years-old and is adopted by his aunt.

He is then treated badly by his adopted family and is forced to live on the streets.

He quickly adopts bad habits in the streets such as drugs, robbing and killing.

This continues until a mistake he makes becomes a turning point in his life.

The film will be airing on television early next year.
