Tshedi has children’s interests at heart

ROODEPOORT – Tshedi, the Unicef celebrity advocate, is the voice for vulnerable children and quality education nationwide.

Tshedi Mholo, known as the ‘The Leopard Queen’, grew up knowing that caring for a vulnerable child is the right thing to go – a lesson taught to her by her mother.

Today, she is a wife and mother from Roodepoort and also a voice of the vulnerable and voiceless children nationwide.

The musician who recently relaunched her music career uses her fame to change the lives of thousands of children through Unicef across South Africa.

The former Malaika lead singer, has now gained more popularity among children since she’s been the celebrity advocate for quality education.

She joined Unicef in 2006.

For years, Tshedi has spoken to children about staying in school because education is the only key to success.

At public events, she advocates for children’s quality education and the importance of not losing focus of a child because they are the future.

“I am happy, I can make a different in a child’s life, all because of Unicef and to be working under a caring mother like Yvonne Chaka Chaka,” said the former teacher.

Tshedi’s love for children started when she was still a little girl growing up in the rural village of Northwest Province.

She said her mother, who was also a teacher, taught her that caring for vulnerable children was not a waste of time.

Following in her mother’s footsteps, Tshedi became a teacher, then quit to follow her music career but she always remembers that there’s a child out there in need of help.

Tshedi’s philosophies are: know yourself, be your own best friend, be the first version of yourself and not the second version of someone else.

Unicef’s celebrities have a wide range of talents and achievements, but they all share a commitment to improving the lives of children worldwide.

And in each case, a celebrity’s association with Unicef comes about because he or she has already demonstrated that commitment.
