21-year-old shot dead in alleged botched hijacking

Only wallet and tablet taken.

At about 8pm on Friday night a 21-year-old man was shot dead during an attempted hijacking in Thistle Street.

The man and his friend, who were waiting to pick up another friend, were standing outside their friend’s home next the vehicle when a blue BMW pulled up next to them. According to Captain Lydia Dikolomela, Florida Police spokesperson the men were ordered to lie on the ground. It is uncertain why the hijacker opened fire but he fired about seven shots of which two hit the victim. The suspects fled with a wallet and a tablet. The second man was not shot but kicked while he was lying on the floor.

Florida Police and Netcare 911 was on the scene within minutes. The paramedics tried to save the man’s life but he sadly passed away on the scene.

No arrests have yet been made.
