Maragon’s dancer participates in global competition

Warrick Naude participated in the IDO competition held in Germany.

Maragon Private School‘s Grade 4 pupil, Warrick Naudé recently competed in the International Dance Organization (IDO) World Hip Hop Championships in Italy.

Warrick took part in various dancing competitions in South Africa in order to qualify for the IDO Championships this year which was held over a five day period.

This was however, not the first time he took part in the worldwide competition. Last year, the dance guru was placed 12th in the U/11 Solo Male category in the IDO Championships and according to Belinda, Espag, spokesperson at Maragon Private School, he really wanted to improve his result this year.

This young boy started dancing with Mario Gomes, owner of Mario Gomes Hip Hop Dance Academy at the tender age of seven-years-old.

“He practiced at least five hours a week in preparation for the big event. He also qualified to compete in five different dancing events associated with the IDO competition and was determined to make the final round in at least one event,” Belinda said.

His final results in their respective categories are as follows:

Children’s Hip Hop Duos with his partner Mikayla Basson – 20th place out of 65 entrants

Children’s Solo Male Hip Hop – 6th place out of 53 entrants

Children’s Formation Crews (Kahos Crew) – 5th place out of 15 crews

Children’s Solo Electric Boogie – 5th place out of 27 entrants

Children’s Hip Hop Small Groups (Lil Precision Crew) – 2nd place out of 28 crews

“With hard work and determination he reached the final round in four of these events – exceeding his own expectations.”
