It was estimated that around 20 shacks burned down over alleged arson on 14 November in the early hours of the morning at Zandspruit Informal Settlement.

A six-week-old baby, a number of toddlers, and men and women of all ages were affected by the fire.

The community is deeply grateful for the donations of food made by Eagle Landing Fruit and Veg, Bob from Bravo Bakery in Honeydew, Cashbuild in Cosmo City, Shoprite in Cosmo City, the Spar on Christiaan de Wet Road and Olivedale Spar, Pastor David and Judah Africa and Stop Hunger Now.

The Zandspruit community would like to appeal to individuals and companies to consider donating the following: 6 inch nails, 3m gum poles (x 30), corrugated iron (zinc), door frames, cement, kitchen utensils, buckets, toiletries, cleaning materials, blankets, sheets and pillows.

“It is important that every little bit counts and with the festive season approaching these donations will go a long way in making someone’s holiday a little bit more festive,” said DA chairperson for the Northwest Constituency Sven Botha.
