A West Rand team has surpassed all expectations, taking their J22 yacht over the finish line in first position once again. This led to them being crowned the champions of the Transvaal Yacht Club.
By doing so, they made history, becoming the first team to win it seven time in a row.
Shaun and his brother Barry Gurnell along with their teammate Graham Baker are also currently the North West and Mpumalanga champions.
“Over the years I’ve witnessed many Roodepoort-ians be credited with conquering his or her sport, and bringing a sense of pride to all of us who still call the West Rand our home,” said sailing enthusiast Ryan Murphy.
These men grew up here in the West Rand, studying in Ridgevale Primary and later West Ridge High.
