She was joined by ER 24 Joburg West branch medics Rees Webber and Wian de Beer.

The 16 kilometre hike was part of the organizations way of showing commitment to their cause of breaking the silence on sexual abuse.

They aim to empower survivors of sexual abuse and breaking the silence through their website, survivor clips, educational programmes and climbs.

After the hike, Masetla was chosen to be ambassador for One Young World, which takes place in Bangkok this month.

One Young World is the most excellent Social Entrepreneurship Forum for Young Leaders globally, with counselors such as Desmond Tutu and Kofi Annan.

She will also represent CLIMB at the African Union’s Summit on Ending Child Marriage, 26 and 27 November.

With 16 Days of Activisim coming up, Masetla has planned a host of campaigns to create awareness on abuse.

“We are planning community outreach programmes during the 16 Days Activism Against Abuse Campaign period. On 1 December, we will host a workshop in a shelter on Abuse and HIV/AIDS in the East Joburg. This will be followed by an Expo on Abuse and HIV-FREE generation in various informal settlements throughout Roodepoort on 5 and 6 December. We will also have an educational theatre piece on abuse and HIV / AIDS from 1 to 12 December,” she said.

Masetla is already planning future climbs next year which will include Mount Kilimanjaro.
