House emptied while family is tied up

Black BMW among the things taken while the family was tied up.

A woman had to untie herself and her family after suspects ransacked their house in Florida Lake and made off with R200 000 in stolen property and a black BMW.

On Monday morning (9 November) at around 5.30am the victim awoke, hearing voices in her bedroom. The next moment her and her husband were pointed with a firearm by one of the suspects and instructed to lie on their stomachs, Florida Police spokesperson Sergeant Mpho More said.

“Their hands were tied up with belts and ties and the suspects demanded the complainant’s wedding ring from her,” she said.

The family was put in one room of the house and socks were stuffed in their mouths, which gave the robbers plenty of time to roam for valuable items. They managed to gather four televisions, five laptops, seven cell phones, three watches, speakers and R2 500 in cash. They then demanded the gate key and black BMW’s key from the victims and made off.

None of the victims sustained any serious injuries.

“Unfortunately the vehicle has not yet been recovered,” More told the Record.

“We have also not been able to arrest any suspect relating to the case to date.”
