Education Department tackles water crisis at schools

GAUTENG – Contingency plans to address water disruptions in schools are being put in place.

Gauteng Department of Education is putting in place contingency plans to address the issue of water disruptions in affected schools in the province.

The Head of the Department Edward Mosuwe has issued a request as a matter of priority to District Directors to provide the department with lists of such schools.

Schools are therefore urged to report water disruptions to District Directors so that necessary support can be provided.

The department has been in discussion with the Disaster Management Centre in the City of Joburg Municipality for the centre to speedily provide water and water tanks to affected schools.

One of the schools that will be affected by planned water restrictions, is Trinityhouse in North Riding, where parents have been advised to, “please provide an extra water bottle for your child…”

This follows the planned water interruption that will take place in North Riding, Honeydew and surrounding areas on 17 November and 18 November.

The same arrangement will be made with other municipalities across the province where there are water disruptions in schools.
