HONEY CREST – An experienced furniture man opens new furniture shop in Honey Crest Shopping Centre .

Families, friends and customers gathered to celebrate the opening of a new and the only furniture shop in Honey Crest Shopping Centre in Randpark Ridge on 5 November.

The furniture shop is owned by Michael Durbach, who has been in the furniture business since the ’70s.

It is called 1100 Degrees, with over 200 fabric choices.

Durbach said after the closing of many furniture shops nationwide in November last year, he saw a business opportunity in furniture.

“I am not new in this business. Even though I always worked for other people for many years,” said Durbach.

He said all he wants is for people to have a a wide choice, and to “buy what they want, not to buy what is presented in the shops”.

“I was born in Transkei and worked in a bank before relocating to Pretoria where I worked at my uncle’s hardware. I retired few years ago but continued doing part-time jobs just to keep myself busy,” he said.

Durbach said that after a five year break, he decided to start his own furniture business.

“Some are designed at home, but some imported from overseas,” said Durbach.
