Penultimate round of School’s canoe at Florida

Gauteng Canoe Union School League race heading towards its climax.

Florida Lake Canoe Club (FLCC) hosted the Gauteng Canoe Union School League race this weekend (31 October).

Juniors representing a variety of schools throughout Gauteng raced in age appropriate distances from U/8 through to 18-years-old.

Points are awarded for each participant completing the monthly races. The final event and prize giving will be held at the Vaal River on 21 November.

The winning primary and high schools, top individuals and clubs who coach the juniors will receive recognition for their achievements over the year.

FLCC junior Matthew van der Merwe from Charter House is currently leading the Gauteng School log’s U/12 boys while Kamilah Hank from Auroro Curro’s, and top of the girls U/12 log.

Her sister Ameerah leads the U/10 log.

Jaydon Hunt is the club’s top U/14 racer, with Tristan Trican also succeeding in the U/16 age group.

“Moses Ngomane is a podium position holder in the U/18 category. A number of newer learners also did very well, achieving fourth place and just missing podiums. Gustav Preller’s Davy Brown, and Sisanda Mthabela from Generaal De La Ray Primary school,” said Gauteng Canoe Union’s Jennie Dallas.
