Bar disturbs residents

LITTLE FALLS – Residents are fed up with the noise emanating from the Cascades Pool Lounge during the weekends.

Residents of Little Falls who reside next to a bar said that they are fed up with the unbearable noise emanating from it especially during the weekends.

Residents who would not be named for their own safety complained that the noise heard from the Cascades Pool Lounge in the Checkers Centre, at the corner of Cascades Road and Victoria Street, was especially disturbing during the weekends.

It was also said that incidents such as car drifting, scuffles and assaults regularly occurred outside the lounge.

According to the residents people allegedly drink alcohol and get intoxicated at the bar and start to cause fights. “They play loud music from the evening until in the morning, fight in the parking lot and a vehicle was even torched,” said a resident.

Another resident asserted that a man was allegedly assaulted by the bouncer from the pub but did not report the incident to the police. The resident insisted that he also contacted the owner of the bar but to no avail.

Cascade Pool Lounge owner Kobus Mans explained that most incidents occur during the weekend but he could not control them.

“I only control what is happening inside my bar. I have security, three bouncers and almost 15 CCTV cameras to monitor all the illegal activities happening inside my bar,” he said.

He further explained that they keep the noise level at a minimum level at all times and that he could not control the movement of people at the centre. “We have soundproof and we always close all the windows when we play music,” added Mans.

He said that many people park their vehicles at the centre parking lot, open their car boots and play loud music while drinking alcohol.

“Yes we had one incident where a vehicle burnt, but it was not torched – it just caught fire. There was a time when intoxicated people smashed the ATM during the night but I cannot control that,” he said.

Mans concluded he was working closely with the police to ensure it was safe in the area and they also busted five people who were selling drugs in the centre.
