GALLERY: Top achievers at Trinity High School

LITTLE FALLS – Pupil represent South Africa internationally in sailing and dancing.

Top achieving pupils won various awards for academic and extramural activities at Trinityhouse High School Little Falls on 30 October.

Brother and sister, Todd and Amy Fisher did exceptionally well in sailing this year. Amy (16) came first in provincials for being a skipper in sailing. She also did well in inter-high swimming and made it to Prestige. Amy said that she would like to take her swimming further and maybe some day become an Olympic swimmer.

Todd (17) is a second-time national champion in sailing, and double Protea sailor, and will be going to the International Sailing Federation for the second time. “I am hoping to get a medal this time at the ISAFs [International Sailing Federation],” said Todd. He has represented South Africa in Portugal at the ISAFs and he will be going back in December to January, representing SA again in Malaysia.

The school also awarded their first ever executive prefect body for the school since it opened in 2012. All the prefects were excited about their achievements. Head boy Thomas Jordaan said, “It still feels surreal that we were chosen, we all know it will be a big responsibility and we are prepared to set an example and start our own traditions.”

Deputy head girl Tanith de Ruck, has qualified for the third year, in the U18 national tournaments in hockey that will be held from 3 – 14 December in Durban. “Hockey is my passion and I am excited I am going to Durban, my parents are very proud,” said De Ruck.

Three pupils were also acknowledged for their achievements in the ongoing National Eisteddfod Academy. Kayla Summers (15) will participate in singing, drama, public speaking and miming. Troy du Plooy (13) participated in playing the piano and Leigh Venters (15) participated in singing. The pupils are looking forward to the second round of the Eisteddfod’s taking place next year.

Modern contemporary and ballet dancer, Kira Steeler (14) from Weltevreden Park competed in the Dance Star competition and has been selected to represent SA in Croatia next year for the World Dance Star Masters. “I am looking forward to making my family proud and I hope this opens more doors for me,” said Steeler.
