Pedestrian knocked down at off-ramp

Two injured in two accidents.

A man who critically injured this morning following an accident at the corner of Beyers Naude Drive and Peter Road has been airlifted by the ER24 medical helicopter.

According to ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing, the man who was riding a bicycle was knocked over by a bakkie.

When ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene, they found the man, believed to be about 25 years of age, on the side of the road.

He was assessed and found to have sustained critical injuries. He was treated and the medical helicopter was activated to airlift him to hospital.

The exact cause of the incident is unknown.

In another accident, the N1 South and 14th Avenue off ramp had to be closed yesterday afternoon after a pedestrian was knocked down by a motor vehicle.The Roodepoort Fire Department and VitalMed emergency services were on scene and immediately assessed the patient.

Eric Nicholls said the patient suffered moderate injuries and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The JMPD was on scene and will investigate why the pedestrian was on the off ramp.
