Five suspects arrested after skipping red traffic light

Suspects beg for forgiveness.

Last Wednesday a red traffic light literally stopped five criminals’ criminal careers.

At at around 2.30pm two Florida Police Crime Prevention members, Sergeant Willy Magetse and Constable Abednigo Gabe, were doing patrols around Florida. They were driving along Golf Club Terrace Road when they spotted a red Toyota Tazz skipping a red traffic light. The Police became suspicious and immediately made a U-turn and followed them. They tried to stop the Tazz but the suspects accelerated and a chase ensued. The Police managed to stop them and a search was conducted.

Two laptops, an iPad, two cell phones, All Star tekkies and a laptop bag was found. According to Florida Police spokesperson Sergeant Violet More the men repeatedly apologised during questioning.

In a surprise turn of events a complainant who went to the police station to open a case of house robbery positively identified the suspects as those who tied him up at a house in Louis Botha Street. A second complainant who went to the station to open a case of housebreaking that occurred at Clemmow Street, then positively identified the items that was found in the Tazz as hers.

A case of housebreaking, attempted house robbery and possession of suspected stolen property was opened. The five suspects, aged between 23 and 28 were detained at Roodepoort Police Station.
