10th day of Muharram

Sunni and Shia Muslims will mourn for the day.

Today marks the 10th day of Muharram on the Islamic calendar for Sunni and Shia Muslims.

Sunni Muslims are regarded as the orthodox and traditionalist branch of Islam and Shia Muslims are the second largest denomination of Islam.

The word “Muharram” means “Forbidden” and some Muslims fast during these days.

On the 10th day, Shia Muslims all over the world take out large processions through the streets carrying banners while they are in mourning.

They also also expected to keep themselves away from music and joyous events, such as weddings, that are likely to distract them from the sorrowful remembrance of the event.

The Record would like to wish all our Muslim readers well over today.
