Joelle Nolwazi Kanyinda is the first baby to be born at the new 100 bed Netcare Pinehaven Hospital on 16 October to proud parents Pearl Moeketsi and Yannick Kanyinda.
The staff and management were thrilled about the first arrival, who was born a healthy 3.03 kilograms and 49 centimetres in length at 5.47am. Moeketsi said she received excellent care from the obstetrician Dr Miriam Machetela, midwife Susan Moeketsi, nurse Chantal Gabriels and staff members.
Nursing services manager at Netcare Pinehaven Hospital Constance Majeke said Joelle’s birth is a historic event for the new, recently opened facility where one of the focuses is the care of mothers, babies and children.
“Netcare Pinehaven Hospital’s brand new 15-bed maternity unit is equipped according to international standards. There is a choice between private and semi–private en-suite accommodation to suit expectant mothers’ individual needs,” she said.
Joelle will also receive free vaccinations at the Stork’s Nest Mother and Baby Wellness Clinic for the next five years of her life. A plaque in honour of Joelle will also be placed in the mother-and-child unit.
Majeke says Netcare Pinehaven Hospital offers a number of health services such as gynaecology, general surgery but is likely to be well recognised in the area for the treatment of mothers and babies, including specialised orthopaedics.
“The birth of Joelle marks the beginning of a great new journey for the experienced gynecologists, maternity staff and paediatricians at the hospital and we are looking forward to being of service to many more expectant mothers,” she said.
Netcare’s Stork Nest Mother and Baby Wellness Clinic within the hospital provides a number of helpful antenatal and postnatal classes. The clinic is open Mondays to Fridays from 8am– 4.30 pm.
