Photos: Just in: Suspected car thieves apprehended

Police waits for car thieves at makeshift road block.

At around 10.30am this morning Roodepoort Police managed to arrest two suspected motor vehicle thieves who are believed to have been operating in Florida for a while.

According to an Apcan reaction officer the police spotted the two suspects in their golden Mercedes close to Barry Hertzogh Avenue in Florida. Knowing that suspects in a golden Mercedes has been seen around Florida trying to break into vehicles, they started to follow the vehicle but when they tried to pull it over it sped off.

The security reaction officer said he saw the Mercedes skip a stop street at the intersection of Kilburn and Du Toit Streets and then saw the police in close pursuit. He also joined the chase but at the intersection of Mouton and Kilburn Streets a large contingent of police vehicles had closed off the road and was waiting for the suspects.

Two men were arrested and various motor vehicle breaking tools were found inside their vehicle.
