Florida resident critical after bridge collapses

He has been in an induced coma since the accident.

Former Florida Park High pupil celebrates his 20th birthday today in an induced coma after he was injured when the Grayston Bridge collapsed last week Wednesday, 14 October.

According to reports, the bridge was under construction when it collapsed on the taxi Bryce Carlinsky was travelling in from work. This resulted in him being trapped under a huge steel pole for several hours.

He and his best-friend were reportedly sitting in the front seats of the taxi when the 80-ton pedestrian bridge crushed the taxi.

“Carlinsky is still in an induced coma and he has sustained various injuries including a bash to his head which caused bleeding on the brain, as well as a hip, pelvis and leg injury,” said his brother, Tremaine Mothao.

Motheo added the family are still waiting for the results from the tests to determine the extent of his injuries.

A local newspaper reported him, his best-friend and the driver saw the bridge swaying before it collapsed.

A Facebook campaign #PrayForBryce which was started recently by a friend of his, is a platform people can use to share their prayers for him.

Here are what some of the Facebook users have said so far:

Portia Potgieter: Wish you speedy recovery Bryce. Through God’s mercy you are healed.

Hloni Hlonay Aldrin: He can do it!

Phumi Puku Ntuli: May God be with him and his family. I hope he pulls through and he gets out okay. I also hope the responsible company pays dearly. This is not South African engineering.
