STRUBEN'S VALLEY – 'Dis ek Anna' is a moving drama about a victim who is on trial for shooting her stepfather who had abused her when she was a young girl.

Samsung Concept Store in partnership with Hirsch’s and Nu Metro at Clearwater Mall hosted a Ladies’ Night Out on 15 October where the movie Dis ek Anna was premiered a week before its release date. The women who attended were entered into a competition sponsored by Hirsch’s and prizes like cookbooks and movie tickets were received by delighted winners.

Dis ek Anna is a moving story about surviving rape. With South Africa’s high rape statistics, the movie highlighted the impact that rape can have throughout a victim’s life. Anna Bruwer is a young girl when her mother remarries her stepfather Danie du Toit, played by actor Morné Visser, who in the movie repeatedly sexually abuses Anna.

The movie starts off dramatically when the viewer watches Anna shooting her stepfather on a rainy night in Bloemfontein. She confesses to the detective assigned the case. She is charged with the murder and her story begins. The movie, which is based on a true story written by Anchien Troskie, unravels Anna’s life through flashbacks piecing together Anna’s life in tidbits.

The movie looks at how society reacts to trauma, as experienced by Anna. It asks the question, can there ever be healing after trauma? The movie is a must-see and will be released at Nu Metro cinemas throughout South Africa on 23 October.
