Maragon dancer excells

A good year for young dancer.

A Maragon Ruimsig Grade 12 pupil, Megan Perrins’s cultural achievements outside of the school has astounded friends, family and her school.

She achieved Honours in her Advanced II Modern Dance Teachers examination and Honours with Distinction for her Acrobatic Dance teachers Associate Two Examination. She is now qualified to teach both disciplines at a junior level.

In addition to these two achievement, she participated in limited competition as her priority is completing a successful matric.

During the week of the 14 September Megan participated in the Roodepoort Dance Festival Championships and achieved a first place and a second place in her two solo’s.

On 24 September she competed in the Acrobatic Federation of South Africa (Afsa) Bursary and was placed third and for the second year in a row she received a Special Award for Best Personality.

From 2 to 5 October she competed in the Afsa competition and achieved four Awards:

• First place Open Duet Any Age

• Best Choreography for her Character Dance

• Best Personality

• Overall Senior Champion (third year in a row).

From 6 to 9 October Megan participated in the South African leg of the American Dance Awards south African Championships and competed in three events. She was awarded three Ultimate Gold Medals and further received two special awards, one for “Emotional Execution” and the other for “A Horribly Wonderful and Effective Execution” (this was for a character dance titled “Cursed”).
