Princess High in Oral History

In the competition, the team finished in third position, capping off a successful year.

Princess High Schools’ Oral History team participated in the prestigious Nkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History competition recently.

The competition requires pupils to research a given topic and present an oral report.

This year, pupils had a variety of topics to choose from such as freedom, democracy and the history of my school: how my school experienced apartheid and the changes since the advent of democracy in 1994.

Socio-political biography of a local hero or heroine in my community: what motivation did they find in the Freedom Charter and Life story of a former student leader in the 1980’s: how the idealism of the Freedom Charter guided them.

This competition forms part of the Department’s contribution to the strengthening of the teaching and learning of history in schools as well as strengthening the literacy imperative.

Lutendo Netshikweta, Mbalenhle Mkhithi, Busiswa Machi and Bongani Dlamini formed part of Princess High School’s team.
