Honeydew: Worst for car theft, house robberies

A shocking 13 959 crimes committed in the Honeydew Precinct to date.

Of all the local crime statistics released over the past couple of days, Honeydew Police Station ranks the worst, even nationally.

It is first in the country for residential robberies and car theft, second for residential burglaries, fifth for malicious injury to property, sixth for robbery with aggravating circumstances and seventh for overall theft and theft from vehicles. Nationally, it ranks as the fifth worst precinct in terms of number of reported crimes, a shocking 13 959 crimes.

Fifty per cent more trucks were hijacked and 22 per cent more common robberies took place while kidnapping also increased by 23 per cent. Twenty-five per cent more people were caught driving under the influence, showing Honeydew Police’s engagement in fighting crime. They also picked up on 12 per cent more drug-related crimes and 100 per cent more prostitution cases.

While statistics are mostly up for the different categories they have more efficiently dealt with certain crimes. At least 30 per cent less arson cases were reported, general theft has decreased by 8 per cent and 73 per cent less instances of public violence were reported.

A total of 1 050 cases of robbery with aggravating circumstances were reported, 795 cases of common assault and 675 cases of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. A shocking 1 815 residential burglaries were reported and 1 495 cases of theft from a vehicle. Common theft was reported 2 401 times.

The Honeydew Police is yet to comment on these statistics.
