City Power admits to a mistake

WELTEVREDENPARK – City Power admits the disconnection of a resident's power in Weltevreden Park was a mistake.

City Power admitted to making a mistake on 30 September by cutting off the power supply of a resident for an outstanding account.

Resident of Toktokkie Avenue in Weltevreden Park Jaco Badenhorst, said his electricity was disconnected after he received an account statement and a disconnection notice.

“On the notice it can clearly be seen the account numbers do not correlate and the physical address is 1064 not 1065A,” said Badenhorst.

City Power spokesperson Yumna Sheik said Badenhorst’s power supply point is situated in the same box as another property and so it was a pure mistake that the wrong house’s electricity was cut off.

She said the City Power area manager did phone Badenhorst to appologise for the error and inconvenience.

Sheik said City Power is clamping down on illegal connections across Joburg and cutting off customers who refused meter readers permission to read their meters.

“City Power embarked on a city-wide campaign to ensure that all electricity meters are read, and that faulty meters are replaced with smart meters. The objective of this initiative is to improve billing accuracy, the accuracy of electricity consumption figures and to ensure consumers are billed for the accurate amount of electricity consumed,” said Sheik.
