More trees for Weltevredenpark

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Residents plant 10 new trees along the banks of the Klein Jukskei River.

Members of the RiverWel and Welview residents’ associations planted trees in Weltevreden Park along the banks of the Klein Jukskei River on 1 October. A total of 10 Bushwillow trees were donated by Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo after requests from residents and Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin.

In addition to the environmental benefit, residents hope that the roots will secure the soil from damaging erosion.

Mike Tonkin addressed the team of planters. “I want to thank everyone who has put a lot of work into this project. I think it’s gone off well. What we do now is so important for [our children and grandchildren’s] well-being and for the well-being of our environment,” he said.
