Biker killed in collision

A man was killed yesterday after his motorbike collided with a bakkie in Florida North.

Shortly after the incident, ER24 medics and other services arrived at the intersection of Ontdekkers and Konradie Streets where they found the rider.

“We believed him to be in his early 20s and he was a few meters away from his motorbike. He showed no signs of life,” said ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.

Paramedics initiated CPR but was unable to revive him and he was later declared dead on the scene.

A woman in the bakkie, believed to be the passenger, was treated on the scene for moderate injuries. She was later transported to a nearby hospital by another medical service. The driver of the bakkie was assessed on scene. He sustained no injuries.

“It is understood that the motorbike collided into the side of the bakkie. The exact cause of the incident is not yet known. The Johannesburg Metro Police attended to the incident and will conduct and investigation to determine the exact cause,” said Vermaak.
