Assaulted pensioners relate ordeal

"I will rape and kill you," threatens robber.

The two pensioners, Wally (73) and Terry (62) Hammond from Lindhaven who were violently assaulted yesterday during a house robbery, are traumatised but doing fine.

Terry says she was busy with her beauty routine while her husband was taking a nap at about 1pm when the ordeal started. Regardless of having a fierce guard dog, four suspects managed to sneak into the house. Suddenly she was facing one of the suspects holding a brick. She screamed and he started hitting her. He then put a pillow over her head and told her if she does not keep quiet he will “rape and kill” her but she screamed again. Her husband rushed to help her but the suspect then started assaulting him with the brick.

They continued to torture him until he eventually passed out. When he came to he was disorientated and could not recall the events. In the meantime the suspects made off with a few items which included cell phones and a laptop.

When Wally phoned for an ambulance the ambulance man asked him if he wanted to go to hospital but due to the fact that he could not be brought back he declined. Later the evening at about 7pm a neighbour took the Hammonds to Helen Joseph Hospital where they waited until 3am to be attended to. Both had to receive stitches on their heads and Wally’s arm is severely bruised. The flesh on one of his fingers are split to the bone and could not be stitched.

The couple has now removed all the boxes containing valuable items they were storing for a friend to another location fearing it could attract criminals to their home. They asked not to be photographed saying they are very private people.
