GALLERY: Great support for Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer

STRUBEN'S VALLEY – 3500 cupcakes donated to Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer.

A total of 3500 cupcakes were donated by volunteers for sale on National Cupcake Day at Clearwater Mall on 26 September.

Annelize du Preez, who volunteers every year, explained the aim of this NGO Cupcakes 4 Kids with cancer is to raise funds for the families of children who are affected by cancer and to create awareness of early cancer warning signs.

“The generated funds are used to assists with medical bills or to pay for transport so parents can visit their children in hospital. It is also used to pay for prosthetics,” said Du Preez

According to their website the project was started in 2009 during which R5000 was raised.

This number skyrocketed to R50 000 in 2010 and in 2011, a total of 21 000 cupcakes generated sales of R200 000.

Du Preez said in the North of Johannesburg R39 000 was raised in 2014 and that they hope for an even higher amount this year.

The unsold cupcakes were donated to the children of the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home.

She said Bonita van Wijk donated 365 cupcakes in memory of her late brother who passed away from cancer.

Bianca Botha ensured everyone could participate by donating 400 banting cupcakes.

People were more than happy to support the cause and the uniquely decorated cupcakes flew off the shelves quickly.
