Update: School says they took every action

One teacher's services terminated.

J&J Private Primary school has taken every possible action in order to investigate corporal punishment allegations against two of its teachers, says their attorney Ockert Le Roux.

This comes after a mother of two pupils at the school laid assault charges against two of its teachers after both her children alleged they were victims of corporal punishment.

The school refutes this, saying they took the matter very seriously.

“As soon as we were aware of the allegations we drew up a notice to suspend, but the Grade Two teacher in question were off sick for two days.

“She did not return to school and we tried to deliver the notice at her residence in order to follow due process but the security did not let us in. We then drafted a charge sheet and a hearing was set for 18 September but again she did not attend. Henceforth we have terminated her services,” said Le Roux.

“Our school seriously disapproves any kind of action against a child that is of a physical nature,” he concluded.

The school’s internal inquiry found no evidence that the Grade One teacher was guilty of the allegations against her. The police investigation into the allegations continues.
