GALLERY and VIDEO: Stop Police Killings – SAPS drive

HONEYDEW – The police, emergency services and security companies address the serious issue of police killings.

Flashing lights, blaring sirens and a show of camaraderie covered the streets of Florida, Honeydew and Roodepoort on 19 September.

In a massive effort by Honeydew, Florida and Roodepoort police stations, ER24, VitalMed and various other security companies, a huge, high visibility crime-awareness drive took to the streets. The drive was held to address police killings.

The awareness drive covered different areas that were identified by different police stations as crime hotspots.

Tactical Response Team vehicles stopped traffic at major intersections such as, Ontdekkers and Gordon roads, Christiaan de Wet and Jim Fouché roads, Albertina Sisulu Road and West Lake Street, to name a few.

Each police vehicle, security van, CPF patrol vehicle and paramedic vehicle used its loudest wailing sirens and bright light in show of a strong presence.

The drive was led by the Inyala which had a large poster on it that read, Stop Police Killings.

Each car had a poster on its windows to show solidarity for the fallen heroes of our nation.

Honeydew SAPS acting Station Commander Colonel Toby Terblanche said, “I thank every person who participated in our event. Together we can fight against crime.”
