Day 10: Flabba case postponed

KENSINGTON B – Three witnesses took the stand during the Flabba murder case in Randburg Magistrates' Court on 18 September.

Day 10 of the Flabba murder case comprised of three witness accounts of the events before and after the death of Nkululeko ‘Flabba’ Habedi.

Randburg Magistrates’ Court saw a full gallery again on 18 September, where Sindiswe Manqele is accused of the murder of SA rap artist Nkululeko ‘Flabba’ Habedi who died on 9 March.

Meter taxi driver Khumbulani Ncube said Manqele was a regular customer of his for about a year.

He got a phone call from the accused after midnight on 9 March, asking if he was on duty and would be able to fetch her from The Sands. In the second call he claimed that Manqele had asked him how long it would take him to get The Sands.

The state questioned what mood Manqele was in, when she finally answered the sixth phone call.

“I could not properly tell her mood as I was also irritated having to wait so long. In such phone call she had said that she had already left the venue.”

The State asked Ncube if he had a GPS in his car or if he knew where The Sands was; he answered yes to both questions.

This is in contradiction to what Manqele had testified to. She said he had called her again to ask for direction to the club.

Constable Godfrey Molobetsi of Alexandra SAPS who was present at the crime scene testified. In his recollection of the event, he was

able to assure the court that Manqele was wearing a brownish vest or top and boxer shorts. “I know what she was wearing because I was the one who suggested she dress in something proper like jeans.

Two other witnesses were supposed to be called to testify, however due to unforeseen circumstances they were not present in court.

Judge Sithole thereby postponed the matter until 16 October at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court for proceedings to continue.

Flabba’s brother, cousins and friends spoke out about their loss.

Tshepang Habedi, biological brother of Flabba said, “As a family we are getting stronger every day we do miss him a lot – judgment wise – what’s the difference she will still go back to her family, Flabba will never come back.”
