West Rand Open a success

Rodney Durbach was the winner of the inaugural West Rand Open squash tournament this weekend.

South Africa’s number six ranked player beat home favourite Devon Hendrikse 3-2 in the final.

The thrilling match that took place at the Western Rackets Squash Centre had more than a hundred people at the edge of their seats.

The tournament had 80 players from across the country participating with five of the top 10 ranked players entering.

Part of the attraction was the R30,000 prize money up fro grabs.

The four-day tournament had more than 1000 fans come through the doors to watch some exciting matches.

“I want to thank everyone for the interest they have shown in our Squash Centre. We are trying to build this legendary place again to what it was in days gone by,” said the club’s Pieter van Greuning.

In the final of the juniors, Sandile Masondo was victorious against Brandon Dube. The final score was 3-1.
