Update on the Emery triplets

Harvey Emery of the Emery quadruplets will be discharged this week to the relief of his parents Rob and Chantel.

He will however be leaving his brothers Gabriel and Daniel in the hospital as they are still in need of medical care. They are now three months old and weigh just over two kilograms each.

“Gabriel is doing well but has lung problems and is on oxygen while Daniel is worse off. He has cerebral fluid and doctors cannot operate on him until he’s over two kilograms,” said their mother Chantel.

With the astronomical fees of the hospital, the family has been doing all they can to raise funds.

Last night the family paid a visit to Roodepoort Athletics Club where they were received with open arms.

Four raffle sheets were filled within hours as club members dug deep into their pockets to help the family.

“We’ve been part of the club since 1984 and this is my home as I grew up here. It feels good to see all the runners supporting us like this. They have always been amazing to us as they were there for me during my accident too. It’s a runner’s nature to help,” said Chantel.

Her husband Rob will be participating in the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge with 22 other cyclists under the Warriors for Preemies banner.

They are hoping to raise funds to buy an automatic vehicle which seats more than seven people.

“We need a big vehicle with all the children and my wheelchair to fit in. We had no support and minimal information about premature babies so we want to be an information hub for other parents who might be going through similar issues,” she said.

A dragon boat race has also been scheduled for the 10 October to help Warriors for Preemies.

At just R3000 per 20-member team, there will be three races taking place with various activities for children and food stalls.
