Update: Drug dealers disappear after cops’ blunder

Police not aware they are gone.

Three suspected drug dealers who Florida Police have released unconditionally have allegedly fled their apartment.

This comes after a R47 000 drug bust on 11 August. The suspects were never charged and the public prosecutor ordered the police to “further investigate”. The police said at the time, when many questioned the police’s handling of the incident and subsequent release of the suspects, that they were “satisfied the suspects will remain at the address ” where the drugs were found.

A resident in the same block of flats, Nicky Groenewald, who lives two doors away from the suspects, told the Record this morning that the three suspects packed all their belongings and disappeared a few days ago.

When the police spokesperson Lydia Dikolomelo was asked whether the police was aware of this she sounded surprised and said she will immediately contact her superiors and alert them to the fact.

The Record is awaiting further information from the police.
